Marketing was obsolete and there wasn’t much need to follow-up with every client because there was a steady flow of referrals and customers. There was no obligation to be an effective sales person; you just needed to take orders. It didn’t matter if it took days or weeks to put a proposal together for a client because there was enough work out there for everyone. Cost overruns weren’t a concern because there was enough profit in your bid. Before you could make a mistake or forget an item in an estimate, you could make it up in the next job.  We didn’t have to be streamlined as a business because the process we had, or lack thereof, was working.
